Safety Net Fan

Safety Net Fan

TSS has developed the TSS Safety Net Fan as a result of a comprehensive study of the problems associated with the falling of objects and workers as well as risks of falling objects for the workers or members of the Public below.

Unlike similar products on the market, the TSS Safety Net Fan has the unique ability to adapt to various building shapes, facades, and materials, as well as cope with high wind loading, particularly in high-rise and exposed structures.

The TSS Safety Net Fan addresses these risks on sites by absorbing the energy of the fall and containing the falling object or person within the net.

  • Manufactured from Steel (Painted or Galvanized finish) and Patented Extruded Aluminium profiles to provide optimum strength and weight
  • Double layer nets made up of 60×60 and 20×20 nets (Heavy Duty) or 100×100 and 20×20 nets (Medium Duty) manufactured from high tensity polypropylene (HT, PP) material with an optional light duty Debris net as third layer
  • UV Treatment to resist sun damage
  • Resistant to high wind loads, able to be tied top/ bottom against over turning
  • Full range of accessories to enable connection to various types and shapes of structures

Safety Net Fans Type

Select required fan width (Standard type or Extra-wide type). Manufactured fully compliant with European Standard EN-1263-2 Type T, using 60×60 and 20×20 layered nets, capable of arresting a 100kg mass Twice on any part of the system from a 7m (Approx. 2 floors) drop height.
Application: Arresting the fall of a worker as well as catching of light material and Debris.

Standard Type

Extra Wide Type

Slab Attachment Application

Used to mount TSS Fan on top of cast concrete slab. Drill 12.00mm Ø hole to accommodate M12 Anchor Bolt, respectively. Socket tube enables connection of edge protection to TSS Fan unit.

Scaffold Attachment Application

Used to connect the TSS Fan to scaffold and shoring structures. The connection must be made to the vertical members and the user must ensure that loading imposed on the scaffold structure is designed and catered for.

Slab Attachment Flat Application

Enables anchor connection of the TSS Fan to slabs whilst allowing block work or similar operation on the slab edge. Slab Attachment Flat can be installed ahead of the Fan installation enabling a speedy erection. The locking bolt ensures secure positioning of the Fan.

Knee Brace Attachment Application

Used to connect the TSS Fan to scaffold and shoring structures. The connection must be made to the vertical members and the user must ensure that loading imposed on the scaffold structure is designed and catered for.

Girder Jaw Clamp Application

Enables connection of TSS Fan to I-beams. The top hat ensures secure positioning of the Fan

Coupler & Wind Lock

Extension Leg

Provides a telescopic extension to TS Fan to provide support from the floor below. Extension legs are available in Short and Long versions to satisfy floor-to-floor height variation with the economy in mind. Support Shoe provides a better bearing on the edge of the slab and also enables anchor connection of the TS Fan to the slab below. An Extender Arm facilitates slab floor offsets such as balcony areas.

Corner Unit kit

Non EN Compliant

Corner units provide a full closure of the corner area of any building/structure. The Corner Unit is fixed on the Standard Fan. For cantilevers bigger than 1.50m a corner unit kit needs to be considered. The max. cantilever for a corner unit is 2.00m.
Note: Corner Unit Kits are designed for catching light material only. Corner Unit Kits can be used with 6.00m Safety Net Fans only.
Corner Unit kits do not comply with EN1263.

EN Compliant

Provides further protection on the corners of the building.
TSS Corner Unit is to be used with 6m units only.

Overlap in Safety Net Fans

To ensure total coverage of gaps between TSS Fan units, the Fans must either be laced together or overlapped. Using the customary method of overlap, the lower units must be installed before upper units as indicated in the sketch below. This method of overlap allows for easy access when folding units for crane-age. The overlapping is achieved automatically using the adjustable coupler when used in conjunction with Slab attachments. When using other attachments (Wall or Slab attachments Flat), the Fan units are simply stacked on top of one another.

The extent of overlap between TSS Fan units determines the effective length of the unit on the plan. To maintain the minimum overlap of 0.75m between TSS Fan units as required by EN-1263, it is recommended to overlap the units at 0.85m as the nets are narrower in the middle.
Using 6.00m TSS Fan units with the overlap of 0.85m results in a 5.00m effective length and
using 4.00m TSS Fan units with an overlap of 0.85m results in a 3.15m effective length, with the exception of the first unit.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers
Safety Net Fan is a system comprising of safety nets used in conjunction with a metal frame used to prevent the fall of people or materials from an open edge. Safety net fans are designed and tested to EN1263-1 Type T. The safety netting element may be made up of multi-layers with varying mesh sizes to catch small objects and debris. The main safety net element must have a 20KN border rope around the perimeter of the nets.
• Double-layer nets made up of 60×60 and 20×20 nets manufactured from high tenacity polypropylene (HTPP) material with an optional light-duty Debris net as the third layer. • UV Treatment to resist sun damage. • 3.1m Standard width or 4.7m Extra Wide widths. • Resistant to high wind loads, able to be tied top/ bottom against overturning • 0.85m overlap between units providing more protection between units. • Full range of accessories to enable connection to various types and shapes of structures. • Manufactured from Steel (Hot Dip Galvanized finish) and Patented Extruded Aluminum profiles to provide optimum strength and weight.
In Europe Safety Nets must be designed and manufactured to EN1263-1:2014 Type T. This involves the dropping of a 100kg spherical test mass twice from a 7m height in the most unfavorable location. The test mass shall be held by the system and the test mass must not touch any elements of the metal supporting framework. Permanent deflection is allowed. Safety Net Fans are installed on-site by EN1263-2:2014 in terms of position with the level where the risk of fall may occur. The safety nets used in Safety Net Fans must be manufactured in compliance with EN1263-1:2014. This standard defines the mesh size and thickness (energy absorption capacity), designation, border finish and rope, tensile strength of each component used, labeling, and annual inspection regime for safety nets.
in America, ANSI A10.37-2016 covers Debris Net systems used during Construction and Demolition operations. This type of net and its metal structure is designed, tested, and installed to catch or contain debris only. The testing and use are in accordance with the manufacturer’s qualification test. ANSI A10.37-2016 covers the mesh size, net selection, marking, installation, maintenance, and on-the-job testing.ANSI A10.11-2010(R2016) covers Safety Requirements for Personnel Nets. This standard establishes safety requirements for the selection, installation, and use of personnel nets during construction, repair, and demolition operations. The purpose of this standard is to provide minimum design, testing, and use requirements for personnel nets.
If a person trips when they are moving forward, they fall forward as well as downward. The distance they fall forward is affected by the height of the fall; that is, the higher the fall, the further the forward movement. Nets providing protection at the edge of a work platform must be wide enough to include the falling person’s forward movement. The width of the net between the edge of the work platform and the outer edge of the safety net is called the catching width.BS EN 1263-2: sets out minimum catching widths for maximum fall heights. As an added safety factor, BS 8411 recommends extending the net at least 1.5 meters beyond the distances given in Table 2 of BS EN 1263-2.
